Native of Seoul, South Korea, I earned a Ph.D. in Musicology from Case Western Reserve University, and a B.A. in Media, Society, and the Arts (summa cum laude) from Purchase College, the State University of New York.
My musicological research focuses on the construction of genres and styles, gender- and class dynamics in musical creation and consumption, and political music. My interest in media technologies, linguistics, and religion often shape the direction of individual projects.
As a performer and musical director, I have worked on a number of recordings and live performances ranging from the house band for the biennial National Council of the Christian and Missionary Alliance to Case Western Reserve University’s Popular Music Ensemble and Early Music Singers. I also regularly compose and produce instrumental tracks that are free to use for online content creators.
